Belmonsters

the belmonsters project

Starting back in 2016 the Belmont City council engaged Cam Aitkenhead in a community driven art project and workshop series. The project went on to win a national award and has spawned 2 children’s books, citywide graphic installations, fine art comissions, online art tutorials for kids and continues to this day. In fact Cam is currenly working on a large scale oil painting comission to be hung in the new Belmont City hub library and council development.

Below are some selections of the various projects…

city graphics

Large format vinyl graphics have been installed all over Belmont - at the swimming pool / rec centre, library, parks, playgrounds, etc. A search and find city map was then illustrated to help the kids track them down.

books

Two books have been published in the series so far, with a third possibly in the works. The characters and story were developed during the commubnity workshops by participants. Then we took the designs and refined them a little and crafted the story into a 32 page kids book. An animated version of book two is in the works for the last part of 2020. Animated by The Head Office of course.

water fountain graphics

These graphics were illustrated for the public water dispensers dotted around the city, featuring short messages on health and hydration featuring everyones favourite monsters!

games

Illustrations created for search and mind, memory games and colouring competitions…
