Agency producers ask us this question every week. The choice between 2D illustration and 3D CGI completely changes the timeline, the budget, and the emotional response of the campaign. Knowing which tool to use is half the battle.

When to Choose 2D
2D animation is incredible for breaking down abstract concepts. It is fluid, highly stylized, and has an inherent charm. If you need to explain complex digital systems like we did for RMIT University, 2D motion graphics allow you to transition seamlessly between ideas without worrying about physical logic. It is fast, flexible, and visually striking.
When to Bring in the Heavy 3D
3D is all about presence. You use CGI when you want the audience to feel like the object actually exists in the real world. If you are building a tactile brand mascot for a TVC or visualizing a physical product that has not been manufactured yet, 3D gives you total control over lighting, texture, and camera lenses.
The Hybrid Approach
Sometimes the best answer is both. Mixing 2D illustrated elements with high-end 3D environments creates a completely bespoke visual style. It shows a level of craft that makes an agency pitch stand out from the crowd. If you have a script and cannot decide which way to go, just reach out. We love figuring out the puzzle.
