Simulating crucial mine site "Priority Rules" and "50-20" traffic protocols with precision.

Simulating complex mine site traffic protocols

The Challenge:

On an active mine site in the Pilbara, safety protocols are not just guidelines; they are absolute, life-saving rules. Pilbara Minerals needed to train their expanding workforce and FIFO contractors on specific, highly technical "priority rules" regarding heavy machinery and light vehicle interactions. The challenge was clear: relying on static, written manuals or standard live-action video was insufficient and potentially dangerous and expensive to shoot.

The Solution:

This project required a complete shift away from standard video production and character-driven narratives into strict, technical industrial simulation. Head Office Studio developed a series of precise E-Learning content modules utilizing highly accurate 3D modeling of the Pilbara Minerals site, haul roads, and machinery fleets.By simulating these high-risk traffic scenarios in a controlled 3D environment, we provided a clear, objective visual breakdown of priority rules.

The Result:

We delivered a highly effective, unambiguous training resource that directly supports the company’s "Safety First" mandate. The E-Learning suite ensures workers immediately grasp the critical mechanics of site traffic safety and right-of-way priority before they ever step foot in a vehicle.

Utilizing diagrammatic animation to clarify critical vehicle passing and communication protocols for Pilbara Minerals.

The Challenge:

Managing heavy machinery and light vehicle interactions on a bustling mine site requires strict, unwavering adherence to safety protocols. For Pilbara Minerals (PLS), communicating their "50-20" rules was a critical onboarding requirement. These specific protocols dictate the exact spatial guidelines required to pass safely, as well as the mandatory two-way communication steps that must occur before any maneuver is attempted. The challenge was conveying these complex spatial rules and radio protocols in a way that was instantly understandable for all incoming staff and contractors, leaving absolutely zero room for misinterpretation.

The Solution:

For this specific brief, we stepped away from cinematic 3D and focused entirely on cognitive clarity. Head Office Studio developed a series of short, highly focused E-Learning videos utilizing diagrammatic, top-down animations.

By presenting the traffic scenarios from a clean, aerial perspective, we were able to visually map out the exact 50-meter and 20-meter exclusion zones, vehicle trajectories, and required communication prompts. This stripped-back, schematic approach eliminated all environmental distractions. It focused the viewer entirely on the mechanics of the safety rule and the order of operations.

The Result:

Because these videos were designed specifically for corporate training, the final assets were delivered in lightweight formats optimised for direct integration into PLS's existing Learning Management System (LMS). This ensured a seamless, standardised onboarding experience, equipping every worker with a crystal-clear, objective understanding of site traffic rules before they ever entered the field.
