A Belmonster in Adachi-Ku.

The goal of this government commission was to create an engaging, educational narrative that celebrated the unique connection between two distinct cities. We started by illustrating and designing a beautiful, dual language children's book. From there, we adapted that tactile artwork into a fully realized 2D animation, complete with English and Japanese voiceovers. Managing the entire pipeline allowed us to ensure the charm of the printed book was perfectly preserved on screen.

The Adventures of a Belmonster in Adachi-Ku

(01)

A bilingual children's book and animation for the City of Belmont.

How do you bridge a cultural gap and engage young audiences across two different countries? You send a monster on an adventure. Commissioned by the City of Belmont to celebrate the anniversary of their sister city relationship with Adachi-Ku, Japan, we produced a fully bilingual children's book and accompanying animated short. Handled entirely in house by Head Office Studio, this project transformed charming physical illustrations into a rich, cross cultural animated experience.

Adapting print illustrations into expressive motion.

A core requirement of this project was accessibility for both Australian and Japanese audiences. We formatted the physical book to beautifully balance both English and Japanese text without crowding the illustrations. For the animation, we managed the dual language voiceover overdubs, ensuring the character performances, comedic timing, and educational messaging landed perfectly in both languages.
